Major American automaker Ford Motor Co. is renowned primarily for the pickup trucks they design and produce. Their F-series trucks in particular have been best-sellers for decades, with the Ford F-150 pickup truck earning the title of the number-one best-selling truck in the United States for the past 39 years. While Ford’s vehicle lineup is brimming with full-size, heavy-duty, and mid-size pickup truck models, one vehicle segment which Ford has not yet entered with their current vehicle lineup is the compact pickup truck vehicle class. The all-new Ford Maverick for the 2022 model year, however, is set to change that. The 2022 Ford Maverick will not only be the first compact pickup truck in Ford’s current vehicle lineup, but it will also hit the mainstream auto market as the first-ever standard full hybrid pickup truck model in America.

If the idea of choosing a high-performing, fuel-efficient, well-designed, and affordable small pickup truck as your next vehicle sounds appealing to you, keep reading to learn all about the groundbreaking all-new 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup truck—which is set to go on sale at official Ford dealerships across the United States at some point during the fall of 2021.

Multiple Powertrain Options

The standard hybrid powertrain for the 2022 Maverick is a 2.5-L four-cylinder engine that pairs with an electric motor and a continuously variable automatic transmission to generate 191 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque on the road. All 2022 Maverick trim levels come standard with this efficient hybrid powertrain, which pairs with front-wheel drive. Hybrid 2022 Maverick models are expected to reach up to 40 MPG on city streets with a 500-mile range.

The 2022 Maverick is also available with a non-hybrid powertrain—a 2.0-L four-cylinder engine that pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and delivers 250 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque on the road. This powertrain comes with a front-wheel drive, but an all-wheel drive is an available option for non-hybrid 2022 Maverick models as well.

Both powertrains of the 2022 Maverick are powerful and capable. The hybrid 2022 Maverick is capable of towing up to 2,000 pounds at one time, while the non-hybrid 2022 Maverick equipped with the Maverick’s available Towing Package can tow up to 4,000 pounds. The payload capacity for the 2022 Maverick is 1,500 pounds.

Innovative Interior

The interior of the 2022 Ford Maverick is unique and well-designed for practicality. It features a variety of intriguing materials—its dash panel has a unique stone-like finish and it features ground carbon fiber—that helps make this compact pickup truck one-of-a-kind.

The 2022 Maverick’s cabin is also outfitted with a variety of innovative storage solutions, such as cup holders that are big enough to hold a large water bottle and a roomy storage bin underneath this compact truck’s rear seats. An additional storage bin, a cable organizer, and grocery hooks are also available for 2022 Maverick models.

High-Tech Features

Despite its low price, the 2022 Maverick comes equipped with a variety of high-tech infotainment and safety features that help this compact pickup truck compete with other modern pickup trucks that are available on the mainstream auto market.

All 2022 Maverick models come standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a built-in WiFi hotspot that can connect up to 10 devices at one time. Wireless smartphone charging capability and an upgraded premium stereo system is also available for all 2022 Maverick models.

The 2022 Maverick is also available with a variety of the latest advanced safety and driver-assist features. 2022 Maverick models come standard with automatic emergency braking and are available with lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and stop-and-go adaptive cruise control.

Affordable Prices

Pickup trucks are not generally known for being affordable. In fact, the pickup truck vehicle segment is actually known for its inaccessible prices—especially since demand for pickups and pickup truck sales have escalated to new heights in the United States over the past several years.

The all-new 2022 Ford Maverick, however, is designed to be accessible to drivers with a wider range of budgets due to its affordable starting prices. The 2022 Maverick is available in three different trim levels—the base XL trim, the mid-tier XLT trim, and the top-tier Lariat trim—all of which are comparatively affordable among other pickup truck models that are available on the mainstream auto market.

The starting prices for each trim level of the 2022 Ford Maverick—including destination charges—are as follows: $21,490 for the base XL trim level, $23,775 for the mid-tier XLT trim level, and $26,985 for the top-tier Lariat trim level.
